Headquartered in Serravalle Pistoiese, in the heart of Tuscany, M.G.M. Motori Elettrici produces 100% of its brake motors in-house, ensuring full control over design, testing and certified quality standards. All products are entirely Made in Italy and manufactured at the Italian facility, while components are distributed to international branches for assembly according to local market requirements. M.G.M.’s international presence is supported by operational subsidiaries in Montreal, Detroit, Chennai and Izmir, together with an extensive network of distributors and technical support active in over 80 countries worldwide.
Over the years the company has developed advanced technological solutions in brake motors for a wide range of industrial applications. The product portfolio is highly diversified, with shaft heights from 56 to 355 mm and power ratings from 0.09 kW to 250 kW. Motors can be equipped with AC or DC braking systems and are also available in customised configurations to meet specific application requirements.
M.G.M. solutions are widely used across key sectors of industrial automation, including lifting and material handling, cranes and overhead cranes, industrial processing machinery, as well as packaging and logistics systems. In addition to standard applications, the company develops dedicated solutions: the BMBM series is designed for theatres, television studios and stadiums, where silent braking is essential, while the BAHX range is engineered for harsh environments and heavy-duty applications, including offshore installations, where reliability under extreme conditions is critical.
Technological innovation has always been one of the company’s core pillars. Many of the solutions currently adopted in AC brake motors originate from M.G.M.’s in-house research and development activities. Since 2008 product energy efficiency has steadily improved, with a progressive reduction in energy consumption and a consistent increase in performance.
Today all single-speed motors comply with European energy efficiency regulations. Further developments in brake electromagnets, for both AC (BA series) and DC (BM series), have enabled significant reductions in power consumption together with improved operational performance.
Efficiency and sustainability are fully integrated into M.G.M.’s industrial strategy. At the Serravalle Pistoiese plant, most of the electricity used is generated by photovoltaic systems. This is complemented by additional initiatives, including geothermal solutions and measures aimed at reducing plastic consumption and optimising the use of water and energy throughout the production process.
Sustainability is also promoted along the entire supply chain, involving suppliers and partners in a shared and responsible approach.
A new range of standard and brake motors with NEMA dimensions is now available in Europe, developed in synergy with the company’s North American operations. This solution allows the conversion of IEC motors into NEMA configuration simply by replacing the shaft and flange, and, if required, the feet.
This range supports customers exporting machinery to the North American market or requiring spare parts for equipment built in the United States or Canada and operating in Europe. The M.G.M. technical team also provides dedicated support in IEC–NEMA conversion processes.
