Leister helps exports: MISTRAL obtains UL certification

The UL mark is not, of course, the only advantage, in fact the Leister heater is also appreciated for its compact design, power, and very low maintenance requirements due to its brushless motor

MISTRAL, the independent heater from Leister, the Swiss multinational leader in hot air solutions for the process industry, is well known by many manufacturers of systems and machinery used in contexts where hot air is used as a heating element.

MISTRAL can be used in a wide range of applications, also because of its excellent size/power ratio: weighing just 1.4 kg, it has a power of 3400 W and can deliver up to 300 litres of air per minute (at 20°C), while it can heat the outgoing air to a temperature of 500°C.

These features allow MISTRAL to bring heat where it is needed in the industrial process, while minimising the mechanical and electrical systems required to support it.

A food & beverage favourite

MISTRAL is particularly appreciated by manufacturers of machinery for the food and beverage industry, where hot air has many uses: from the desiccation of raw materials and products, to the drying and sterilisation of containers, from the shrinking of labels, guarantee seals or packaging, to improving the aesthetic appearance of the finished items in confectionery production.

These processes allow hot air to deploy its advantages: efficiency, simplicity, cleanliness and preservation of the organoleptic characteristics of food and beverages.

Supporting Made in Italy

In the segment of machinery for the food industry, Made in Italy has always been appreciated all over the world: a considerable percentage of the solutions produced in Italy is destined for export. And while traditionally many of our exports have always gone to emerging countries (BRICS and MINT), in the food packaging sector demand from North America has expanded considerably in recent years.

Italian companies exporting machinery to the USA and Canada cannot avoid tackling the issue of UL certification. Issued by the independent certification body of the same name, the UL mark testifies to the manufacturer’s compliance with the strict safety standards of the North American market.

In this region, although the CE mark is a globally recognised standard for product safety, the UL mark is the reference. Manufacturers using components without this mark may face numerous obstacles in obtaining certification for their machinery.

The UL mark and other advantages

This is why Leister has taken steps to obtain UL certification for the MISTRAL 6 independent heaters in the PREMIUM and SYSTEM versions, thus joining the TRIAC manual welder and the double flange heaters in the list of Leister products which have obtained this certification. A rather complex process which the company decided to undertake in order to make it easier for its machine and plant manufacturing customers to certify their solutions for the North American markets.

The UL mark is not, of course, the only advantage obtained by machine builders by choosing MISTRAL: the Leister heater is appreciated not only for its compact design and power, but also for its very low maintenance requirements due to its brushless motor, which makes it ideal for use in continuous operation plants.
